Patient Care Programs

The highest priority for BKF in this area is to ensure that a CKD patient is a useful and productive member of society. Two factors prevent the patient from leading a near normal life, under the circumstances. One of them is poor quality of dialysis which sometimes results in patients under dialysed. The other is patients compromising on the prescribed frequency of dialysis due to economic reasons. BKF tries to address both through patient care activities.

FUNDS RAISED FOR PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES ARE SOLELY AND ENTIRELY USED FOR THAT ACTIVITY. THE ONLY DEDUCTION IS THE COLLECTION CHARGE OF 4% BY THE PAYMENT GATEWAY FOR ONLINE TRANSACTIONS. NONE OF THE FUNDS COLLECTED FOR PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES IS USED FOR ADMINISTRATIVE EXPENSES OR ANY OTHER EXPENSE.

Immunization Programme

With an increasing number of CKD patients getting afflicted with liver infections, the Foundation introduced an Immunization Programme for all the patients undergoing dialysis at the RMH Dialysis Centre. The BKF has tied up with a leading vaccine manufacturing company based in Hyderabad – M/s Shanthabiotechnics Limited. In association with M/s Shanthabiotechnics Limited an Immunization Programme was launched on 7th.January 2012 at the Rangadore Memorial Hospital. This programme will cover all the 200 patients undergoing dialysis at the RMH Dialysis Centre. Dr.Harish Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of M/s Shanthabiotechnics Limited participated in the launch function. This immunization programme involves vaccinating all the dialysis patients with anti Hepatitis B vaccine. This will be a continuous programme to benefit all the patients.

Here are some pictures of the Immunization Programme held on 7th.January 2012.

Total Care Dialysis

In the process extending it’s service to dialysis patients BKF has commenced a new project Total Care Dialysis (TCD). On the occasion of World Kidney Day one of our Trustees Shri Anil Kumble inaugurated the Project.

TCD’s main objectives are :

  • Care for dialysis patients – Medical & Rehabilitative
  • Reverting back to their vocations/ new environment
  • Help them live with dignity

The selected deserving patients will be benefited with the following:

  • Regular 3 dialysis / week
  • Medical consultations
  • Immunization
  • Regular Erythropoietin and Iron Sucrose injections
  • Food grains for calorie requirement
  • Lab checks

Dialysis Subsidy

BKF has commenced a new scheme in the RMH dialysis center. When a patient can afford to pay a partial amount towards the price of dialysis, BKF funds the balance amount. In many cases the patient pays Rs. 550 per dialysis and BKF pays the balance Rs. 100 to the hospital. This scheme allows BKF to subsidize patients who can partially fund their dialysis but cant afford to pay the full amount. This scheme has resulted in a number of patients benefiting from having a dialysis that they may have missed their prescribed number of dialysis per week.

Dear All,
Since the time that a dialysis machine was gifted to Rangadore Memorial Hospital, we had started (in July) funding the dialysis of Rajasekar (son of a taxi driver) at the hospital. Rajasekar (age: in his 20’s) was undergoing dialysis at some other hospital in Bangalore which was not only more expensive but also less effective. As a result he was feeling too weak and drained out to go out and work.

His father and brother (both cab drivers) were working overtime to fund the home and his dialysis. Once the dialysis at RMH began, he found that he was feeling more energetic and when we met him, we found that he was actually an engineering graduate and a specialist in UNIX support at IT offices ! He was now able to attend job interviews and secured a job (in his field of expertise) and one which also gives him the flexibility of attending both office and dialysis sessions ! The family burden has also reduced.

(Not only are dialysis costs borne by Samarth, but some sessions are given free by BKF) Rajasekar is an example of how BKF and RMH meet their twin goals:

  • 1. Provide High Quality dialysis at low cost. Their motto: 5 Star quality at Darshini cost.
(Darshini – term for roadside eatery in Bangalore)
  • 2. Enable Kidney patients to (resume) work and be productive members of society.

We are happy to have partnered with BKF & RMH and we recently also paid Rs 1 lakh for the AMC of some dialysis machines.
If some of you might be interested in a visit to the impressive hospital, let us know we will plan a visit some day

Best Regards
Ravi Karnad
